VITROCELL® Automated Exposure Station with increased capacity delivered to HICE institute

March 31, 2015

After successful start-up of the first Automated Exposure Station which was delivered to the nanoMILE consortium last year, VITROCELL® Systems has now delivered the second system with increased capacity to the virtual Helmholtz Institute HICE. The core of the station are 4 VITROCELL® 6/6 CF exposure modules resulting in a total capacity of 24 cell culture inserts in the 6-well size.

“The burden of the environment by fine dusts and probably related health effects is a serious and far too little-studied problem. HICE particularly addresses aerosol-related health effects and mechanisms, the health importance of organic compounds in anthropogenic aerosol, potential synergistic effects of reactive gas-phase compounds and particles for inducing health effects and the influence of the increase in biomass burning and biofuel use on aerosol composition” says Prof. Dr. Zimmermann, spokesman for the virtual Helmholtz Institute HICE, Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Rostock and head of a cooperative group at Helmholtz Center Munich. The mission of HICE and the Helmholtz Center Munich is to understand the causes of environmental diseases and mitigate them.

“We needed to increase our exposure capacity in our comprehensive molecular research”, says Prof. Dr. Ralf Zimmermann. Because of our previous good experiences we selected VITROCELL for our new demand. Due to the high grade of automation of the exposure station we had a very short start-up time of the system.”
