Hands-on Workshop on Inhalation Exposure Methods for Advanced Cell Systems and Organ-on-Chip Solutions at IIVS in Gaithersburg/USA

May 27, 2026

Last week, IIVS, AlveoliX, and Vitrocell jointly hosted another successful hands-on workshop for participants related to the US government, focusing on advanced non-animal methods (NAMs) for inhalation research.

The workshop started with an excellent presentation by Amanda Ulrey on Good In Vitro Method Practices (GIVIMP), highlighting the importance of robust and well-defined processes as the foundation for validated in vitro methods.

Tobias Krebs introduced Vitrocell’s application areas in inhalation research, including the critical role of dosimetry in air-liquid interface (ALI) exposure systems. Pauline Zamprogno presented several successful case studies demonstrating aerosol exposure applications using the AlveoliX AX12 breathing organ-on-chip platform.

All topics were complemented by practical laboratory demonstrations, allowing participants to gain direct hands-on experience with advanced exposure technologies and organ-on-chip systems.

We would like to sincerely thank our speakers — Holger Behrsing, Vivek Patel, Amanda Ulrey, Pauline Zamprogno, and Tobias Krebs — for their excellent contributions, and all participants for the highly interactive discussions and engagement throughout the workshop.

A special thank you to the entire IIVS (Institute for In Vitro Sciences, Inc.) team for the outstanding organization and support.

We look forward to continuing these workshops to further promote the practical implementation of advanced non-animal methods in inhalation toxicology and exposure science.
